Something that I have been thinking a lot about lately is the unknowing power we have over the emotions of others.
You know how you go to bed smiling when your crush talked to you that day? Or how when someone makes a joke about something important to you and it feels as if they stepped on your soul? And they probably didn’t even realize that they sent you to bed happy or sent you home upset. They don’t even know that they can affect your mood so quickly and so drastically.
And what you likely don’t realize is that you are that person for someone else.
Maybe there is a girl in your class who thinks that you’re kind and cute and one day you held the door for her, and she was happy for the rest of the day. Maybe there is a girl in your class who struggles to make friends and one day you asked her how she was and you made her feel amazing. Maybe one day you made a joke about addiction to a group and one of those people struggles with addiction, they probably felt crushed.
My point is we don’t know who what we say or do is going to affect or how it will make them feel. You may think you’re being funny, but they may feel hurt. You might think you’re just doing a nice thing but to them, it could mean the world. You don’t know other people’s stories, you don’t know how other people view you, you don’t know a lot.
Just be kind. To everyone. Be honest and don’t lead people on but be nice. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Be loving and beautiful people.
Be kind.
