Every Little Victory Counts

One day you will look back on this time and laugh. Because it will seem so strange, the ridiculous world we lived in. And it will feel like forever ago and like yesterday all at once.

You’ll laugh because we wore masks and wiped down packages and people all over the world hid in their homes for months. But I hope that it’s not the masks and loneliness you remember, or the fear and loss. I hope you remember how the sun shined a little bit brighter, that your favorite artist did live-stream concerts, the fictional character you fell in love with, the friend you realized you can hardly live without, zoom workouts, family time, your first quarantine Tik Tok, the new hobby you picked up, and every single thing you felt. We’ve been through a unique war. We have all felt the lowest lows to the highest highs. And while the year 2020 sucks as a whole, individually it really just might be your year.

So I hope you remember not the world sucking, but rather you rocking. And maybe that’s the cheesiest line I’ve said to date, but it’s true. You are doing an amazing job. Maybe you’re stronger than ever before, maybe you told everyone you love that you do, maybe you went for one run, maybe you finished the school year despite thinking you would fail, and maybe you didn’t do anything but get out of bed, but you did something to keep going in tough times.

And getting out of bed on any day is an accomplishment, but especially right now.

Small victories are still victories.

Maybe you didn’t get your summer body on, maybe you didn’t read the book you said you would, maybe quarantine’s been really freaking hard. And yet you’re still kicking. Because despite the feeling that the world is ending and all the walls are caving in, you still have a whole life left to live, and the world can’t change for the better without you. So each day you get out of bed, and you have victories all day long, and after all of this is over you will be stronger and you will laugh.

One day you will look back on this time and remember the victories, big and small, and you will be grateful for how this pause in your life shaped your future.
